Borussia Dortmund have beaten Bayern Munich on Wednesday night with a 1-0 win in a top of the table clash of the German football titans. Robert Lewandowski scored the vital goal in the 77th minute, his 20th goal of the season.
In the 86th minute of the game, Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller brought down Bayern’s Arjen Robben in the penalty area. Robben took the penalty, but saw Borussia captain Weidenfeller save his effort.
In a frantic finish Subotic almost scored an own goal and Lewandowski hit the crossbar at the other end. Jurgen Klopp said: “That was thrilling at the end, the last few minutes were unbelievable” (Source: AFP)
The victory gives Dortmund, who are now 24 games without defeat, a huge advantage towards defending their second consecutive Bundesliga title. The last team that managed to win two tiles in a row besides Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga was the BVB in 95 and 96 almost 20 years ago.
Dortmund now has a lead of 6 points with only four games left in the season. Bayern and Dortmund will also meet again for the German Cup final on May 12.
